NFL Football Betting News

In football betting keeping up to date on the news is important. Here are some examples of news stories that anybody seriously interested in football betting must consider before placing a bet:

The Philadelphia Eagles have signed Pro Bowl safety Brian Dawkins to a two-year contract extension through the 2008 season. In other Eagles news, running back Bruce Perry was taken of the field on a stretcher, with his head in an immobilizer after suffering a head and neck injury in Philadelphia's 16-10 loss to the Raiders in the Hall Of Fame Game on Sunday night. X-rays and a CT scan revealed no structural damage, but Perry does have a concussion. Pro Bowl tight end, Jeremy Shockey, rejoined his NY Giants teammates on the practice field Sunday after suffering a concussion last week. Shockey felt no ill effects of the injury, and made a couple of nice catches during drills.

The Dallas Cowboys are currently without starting wide receiver Terry Glenn, who is suffering from blisters on both feet. This is troublesome for the development of the new passing game as Terrell Owens has also been sidelined with tightness in his hamstring. Running back Thomas Jones is not happy with the Chicago Bears' decision to demote him to second on the depth chart behind Cedric Benson, and a trade may be in the works. The Jets are in the market for a frontline running back to shoulder the load alongside aging veteran, Curtis Martin.

The Broncos are also said to have an interest in trading for Jones. However, this situation could change as Benson injured his shoulder during a scrimmage at Bears camp on Saturday. Safety Tank Williams injured his kneecap at Minnesota Vikings practice on Saturday and it is thought that the injury may be severe enough to sideline him for the entire 2006 season. Word out of Green Bay Packers camp is that quarterback Brett Favre has looked sharp in their Family Night Scrimmage at Lambeau Field, completing 9-for-13 for 119 yards. At the Atlanta Falcons camp, quarterback Michael Vick was able to run drills with the first-string offense after pulling up lame with hamstring tightness at practice last week.

Meanwhile, the Super Bowl teams from last season continue to have their share of problems. The Pittsburgh Steelers lost Ben Roethlisberger with concussion during the 2nd half of yesterday's game with Atlanta, and the Seattle Seahawks lost Matt Hassleback with a sprained knee. Right now it doesn't look like either of these teams is in any condition to make it back to the big game this year, which is going to be played in Miami on Feb. 4, 2007.
