As much fun as it is to play Blackjack, Poker and all the other Betfair casino games that use cards, sometimes you just want to be entertained. This is probably one of the things that Las Vegas offers which the online experience canít replicate. Rather than play a hand, you can instead take a quick walk across town to see masterful sleights of hand that show superb precision and dexterity. Yes, almost as long as weíve had playing cards, weíve had tricks to go with them. But what is it about them that makes them so popular?

Well, one of the obvious reasons is their sheer familiarity. Whatever your walk of life, youíll be familiar with a deck of cards on some level, whether youíve played with them in person or just had a quick game of solitaire on the computer. This added level of familiarity makes it a little more relatable when someone does something impressive with them, if the trick uses a complicated prop that youíve never seen before then itís easy to imagine a hundred different built-in ways for the trick to be executed. But a deck of cards?

Like the one you have at home? It makes sure you know the trick is one that comes from the magician. It helps, of course, that these tricks can be spontaneous and performed with cards provided by an eager onlooker.

This familiarity with the deck itself is also a key element of some tricks. A number of Ďpredictionsí where the magician gets you to pick a card relies on peopleís pre-disposition to pick certain cards based on their familiarity with them. Itís difficult to force someone to pick the Ace of Spades in real money pokies if they havenít ever heard of it.

Another particularly interesting thing about card tricks is how much manual dexterity they require. This adds another layer of relatability as, while this is hardly integral for every trick, it gives the viewer some indication that it involves being nimble-fingered and moving the cards in such a way that they canít work out whatís happening. Itís something thatís both relatable and impressive, not to mention easy to manage.

With the only two requirements being quick hands and a deck of cards, card tricks are easy to do in any circumstance. Not all tricks require this though, some involve being clever with mathematics in a manner similar to Blackjack. This sort of trick is useful practice for any budding magician who also fancies a go at the casino.

Of course, the reason a lot of magicians nowadays still use cards to perform magic is the legacy. From big names like Dai Vernon, Ricky Jay and the ĎKing of Cardsí Harry Houdini, card tricks are easily the second most popular use for a deck. And with the low cost of entry, brilliant selection of tricks and the sheer range of skill you can see, itís probably not a surprise that it is. Doubtful itís going to overtake the most popular use though.
