English bookmaker Ladbrokes reports sustained interest in Andy Murray ahead of the Australian Open, despite the British ace being handed a tough route to Melbourne Park glory.

The world number five is at betting odds of 6/1 to capture his first slam, whilst Roger Federer, seen by many experts as the best tennis player of all times, leads the way at 5/2.

Ladbrokes spokesman, Nick Weinberg, said: "We couldn’t give Murray away earlier this week, but patriotic punters have rediscovered their faith. His support is increasing with every hour that passes."

American Serena Williams is at odds of 5/2 to take the women's title. Her sister Venus is at 12/1 and Kim Clijsters from the Netherlands at 3/1.
