Wimbledon Tennis Betting - Andy Murray Less Likely to Win Championship
Andy Murray, who is now 5/2 to win Wimbledon, has been eased out slightly in the betting by a bookmaker following last night's war against Wawrinka.
However the bookie has responded to the rousing win by cutting the odds in the betting on Murray's 'Britishness'.
Murray had been as short
as 15/8 to win his first Grand Slam title before the Wawrinka marathon although the British ace had been as big as 11/4 for the Wimbledon
crown during the indoor struggle last night.
Darren Haines, spokesman for Paddy Power, said: "Andymonium appears to be in full effect with all
the patriotic punters continuing to back the Brit. Despite the Wawrinka wobble, they’re still backing him to go all the way, to make the final
and to have a much more convincing win against Ferrero than he managed under the roof last night."
Having overcome the obstacle Murray is now
4/7 to reach his first SW19 final and just 1/16 to beat former world number one Juan Carlos Ferrero in the Quarter Finals. It is 4/6 for a Murray
straight sets win and 8/1 for another five set marathon in Murray's favour.
Paddy Power are also betting on how many more sets Murray plays
at Wimbledon this year, making eleven and twelve sets the 4/1 joint-favourite.
Whilst the world number three continues to attract the once a
year British tennis punters, the biggest bet at Paddy Power for Murray to win Wimbledon so far is £5000 at 3/1.
The
bookie has also cut the odds for Andy Murray to finish the tournament as '95% British' to 15/8 as the five set thriller has probably helped
Murray's credentials as being seen as British rather than Scottish.
Who will win Wimbledon (latest betting odds)?
4/7 Federer, 5/2
Murray, 10/1 Djokovic, 14/1 Roddick, 33/1 Hewitt, 40/1 Karlovic, 50/1 Haas, 80/1 Ferrero
