Caloundra Cup Betting - Gunning for Big Odds at the Sunshine Coast
With the feature races at the Sunshine Coast catching his eye, IASbet bookmaker Mark Read has picked out a handsome investment in the 2009 Caloundra
Cup, tipping the Brian Smith-trained Scattergun to win at big odds.
"Scattergun's
($10) form is sound and he is drawn to get a very good run. In addition to his attractive price, Glen Colless has the ride which instils
further confidence in my selection," said Read.
"My worst result in this race would be the $3.80 favourite, Our Lukas. However, I feel he
will struggle to dictate the pace which, combined with the fact that this is his first attempt at the 2,400-metre trip, should make punters hesitant
about his prospects."
Looking at the support card, Read believes the locals have the edge in the Glasshouse Handicap over 1,400-metres.
"The race is extremely open this year, with Voice Commander a $6.00 favourite. However, I'm banking on the Alan Bailey-trained Charming
Rouge ($8.00) to take out this event. His run two starts back to Ortensia was highly encouraging, and he strips a lot fitter third up, with a strong
draw."
"My lay of the race is Mr Baritone, his $6.50 quote, from such an awkward draw, represents little value."
