US President Barack Obama is being tipped to become the first ever US President to appear as a guest star in an episode of The Simpsons.

Irish bookmaker Paddy Power is offering 4/1 odds on the newly elected US President appearing on the show in 2009. According to executive producers James L Brooks and Al Jean no President has agreed to put in an appearance on the hit show yet but it is hoped Obama will break the mould and prove he is the ultimate modern day President.

Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power said: "The Simpsons is the longest running American sitcom and still manages to pull in a massive worldwide audience. Appearing in the show could increase Obama’s popularity amongst today’s youth and label him the coolest President in history!"

Obama made history yet again the other night by becoming the first ever sitting President to appear on a late night chat show, when he appeared as a guest on comedian Jay Leno's show.

Obama's willingness to use new media to reach the masses means the betting odds of him joining Homer and family are now looking very good indeed!

Another name on the producers wish-list is controversial hell raiser and lothario Russell Brand and the bookmaker is even offering betting on who will make an appearance on The Simpsons first.

Brand is the 1/7 favourite to guest star in an episode ahead of Barack Obama at 4/1.
